Use Question mark wild card for quick office password recovery

There are two wild cards '?' (Question mark) and '*' (asterisk) that can be very useful if you know something about the password like

  • Length of your password
  • Some character of your password
  • Complexity of your password etc.

In this tutorial you will get step by step procedure to use wild card for quick password recovery.

How to use ? (question mark)

? is the very useful wild card that allows software to find only missing characters from your Password. For example, we assume that password is digit and you have remembered only first three letter of your password as dig. So to recover your password quickly using wild card you can write your mask as follow:

dig??

The program will assume that your password has 5 letters and first three letters are dig. So program will find only last two letter of your password and by this way it will recover your password in seconds. You may use ? wild card at any position of your string like

d???t
??git
?igit
digi?
Etc.

if your password contains ? characters then write your characters as \?. For example your password is pa?ss9768 then you can write your mask as follow:

pa\?ss????
